First thanks for stopping by to read this first post as I share my failings and triumphs in learning to use Lunix. Yes, I know it has a GUI interface however have been involved in using Windows for so long a new OS provides new challenges. The question is why then Lunix? Well that has to do with my choice for a new career and finding that many of the tools require a familiarity with Lunix and if I can get into command line all the better for me.
So I've purchased an old Lenovo as a first step and created a system image to restore it if all else fails along the way. Next I have to acknowledge that Kali Lunix is my goal, but I'll start with Debian in an effort to keep things simple. You see not only am I a student doing all my classwork completely online, but I work full time in a job that has me in a call-in status as well.
Now I have my Win 7 system image and a Debian 9.0 Live DVD w/ Cinnamon GUI as a bit of a trial. Next I will need to figure out how to get the wifi card recgonized or run another LAN cable down the wall and plug in. The other step I will be looking at is having a dual boot system.
I do believe I will be going to a pure Lunix build at this time and maybe use this to teach myself some programming as well.
I will be trying to post on a fairly regular basis and welcome all constructive comments. It is my hope that someone who is in a similar situation finds this helpful, or at the very least for me a place to look back and one day think, "Wow I really have come far!"
